The Lifecycle of Green Homebuilding Standards

By Green Experts Team

Following green home building standards/certifications grow from the regional to national spotlight.

9781580017695 The Lifecycle of Green Homebuilding StandardsJust like any other trend that captivates consumers across the nation, the green movement initially caught stronger hold of individual regions and states and as it grew in strength and popularity sustainable living became a mainstream initiative.

The establishment of local level certifications was a key step in the development of national green building standards and shouldn’t be overlooked; regional programs such as EarthCraft House, Energy Right, and Built Green are a few of the pioneers in regional Green building certifications.

These building standard programs gained government attention and building commissions began developing green building codes – like the California Building Standards Commission and their CalGreen Code.

As state initiatives gained momentum national building organizations took notice – like NAHB and their National Green Building Program and state organizations joined the national program.  The development of these national programs allows for a cohesive set of standards to be applied to homes from coast to coast – which is essential to the successful development of efficient homes and communities.

With the rise of national green building standards this means great change for not only homeowners and builders but also green product marketers across the board.  As green homes and communities are popping up across the nation the sustainability movement is gaining more and more momentum.  Consumers are further enforced to purchase green products, whether their home is certifiably green or not.

With so many types of green standards successfully established, including green building standards, we are wondering what the next set of national green standards will apply to.

Is there room for your brand to lead standard development in its product category?
